Kahvaltı

Turkish breakfast in Beckenham

Cooked to order and brought to the table to share, the way we do it back home in Trabzon.

A Turkish breakfast spread on one plate: cheeses, figs, dates, dried apricots, tomatoes and cucumber, jam, honey with cream, fried pastry rolls and orange slices

The idea

What is a Turkish breakfast?

In Turkey the word for breakfast is kahvaltı. It means “before coffee”. It is not a quick bite. It is a long, slow meal made of lots of small plates.

Think cheeses, tomatoes and cucumber, fruit, jam and honey, fresh bread, and something hot in a pan. It all lands in the middle of the table and everyone helps themselves.

Ours comes from Trabzon, on the Black Sea. We cook it to order and bring it to the table to share.

On the table

A few of the things we cook

Ask the team what is on today.

Menemen in its pan, with warm za'atar focaccia

Menemen

Tomato and peppers with scrambled eggs. Turkish herbs and a hint of chilli, served in the pan with warm sea salt and za'atar focaccia.

Two fried eggs on crisp potatoes and sucuk in a small pan

Tiramisu French toast dusted with cocoa and coffee powder

Tiramisu French toast

Brioche, espresso-soaked biscuits and our own mascarpone, dusted with Ozone coffee.

There is also çılbır with chilli butter, a Turkish spread for two that takes the whole table, and brioche French toast three ways: tiramisu, pistachio, or Vira with Trabzon hazelnut cream. Mini pancakes for the ones who cannot choose.

The Touché sign on the café wall, with plants either side

To drink

Tea, coffee and the rest

Ozone's speciality blend on a La Marzocco. Ceremonial matcha from Kyoto. Turkish coffee, salep, and tea by the glass.

There are pastries on the counter too, if you want something sweet while you wait.
